PAC stakeholder workshopNational TVET Public Awareness Campaign Workshop

A four day National TVET Public Awareness Campaign (PAC) Stakeholder workshop coordinated by the Dakchyata concluded in Kathmandu. The event was held from 6th to 9th February, 2018 among TVET stakeholders to gather support in order to establish and coordinate campaign activities. The participants were representatives from public and private sectors, mainly Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal, CTEVT, representatives of CTEVT technical schools (Lahan, Ilam, Pokhara, Nepalgunj), Local chambers of commerce (Lahan, Ilam, Pokhara, Nepalgunj), FNCCI, FNCSI, CNI, Hotel Association Nepal, Hotel Professional Federation Nepal, Nepal Agriculture Cooperative Central Federation and GIZ.

The specific objective of the workshop was to create a shared understanding of the National TVET public Awareness Strategy in general. The outcome of the workshop was to get the TVET stakeholders to plan activities and a commitment to implement those in order to support the national PAC. In this regard, stakeholders prepared list of activities for the next three months to support the National TVET PAC from their own organisation. A follow up PAC stakeholder workshop will therefore take place to evaluate stakeholder engagement in the National PAC during the period. Additionally, stakeholders committed to implement activities under the skills logo which they developed and agreed during the workshop including a statement for common use during the campaign.

Following the workshop, the final logo and message will be unveiled during a public media launch on 22 February in Kathmandu.

The National PAC is envisioned to counter three major challenges for TVET Public awareness - a general low regard for manual/semi-skilled/skilled labour; a poor alternative to higher education, build understanding of enterprises that skills development is an essential feature of enterprise development leading to improved productivity, efficiency and profits; improve TVET stakeholders engagement in the TVET public awareness.
